Template Customization ​

Tapboard lets you customize the look of your menu board templates to match your brand. Adjust colors, fonts, sizes, and layout options without designing from scratch.

Requirements ​

Template customization is available on Pro plans and above. If you are on the Sampler or Starter plan, you will see an upgrade prompt when attempting to customize.

Accessing the Editor ​

  1. Navigate to Menu Boards in the sidebar.
  2. Open the menu board you want to customize.
  3. Click Customize Template.

The customization editor opens with all available style options for that template.

Template Rendering Modes ​

Tapboard ships templates in two rendering modes:

  • Native templates — Tapboard Dark and Tapboard Light. Rendered by the Fire TV app's native menu renderer. Fast to draw and battle-tested on lower-powered Fire TV hardware.
  • Webview templates — Tapboard Lumen, Bistro, Industrial, and Field. Pre-rendered to HTML at publish time and shown inside a Fire TV webview, which enables custom web fonts and richer typography. Menu sections are paginated automatically across stacked slides when the content does not fit on one screen.

Both modes use the same customization editor and the same Style Override system. Token availability varies slightly between templates — fields that a template does not support are hidden from the editor automatically.

What You Can Customize ​

Style options vary by template, but typically include the following categories:

  • Background color
  • Text color
  • Font size and weight
  • Item name color, size, and weight
  • Description color and size
  • Price color and size

Cards ​

  • Card background color
  • Border radius and shadow
  • Padding and spacing

The footer bar is a single configurable strip rendered along the bottom of every menu board. You can control:

  • Visibility toggle — show or hide the footer entirely.
  • Footer background and text color (transparent supported — leave the background empty to let the board background show through).
  • Date / time display — show the current date, time, or both, formatted in the location's time zone.
  • Page numbers — show the current page number and total page count when a screen has multiple rotating pages (e.g., "Page 1 of 3").
  • Branding text — your business name or tagline, rendered alongside the date/time.
  • Footer typography — the new webview templates (Lumen, Bistro, Industrial, Field) each ship with their own footer font and brand-word styling so the footer matches the template's overall design language.
  • Hide "Powered by Tapboard" — available on Platinum plans (see below).

How to Edit a Style ​

  1. Find the style option you want to change.
  2. Depending on the field type, you will see:
    • Color picker for colors (enter a hex code or use the picker).
    • Dropdown for predefined choices (font weight, alignment, etc.).
    • Toggle for on/off options (show/hide elements).
    • Number input for sizes and spacing.
    • Text input for custom values.
  3. Changes are saved when you click Save Overrides.

Reverting Changes ​

  • Revert a single field: Click the revert icon next to the field to restore it to the template default.
  • Reset all overrides: Click Reset All to remove all customizations and return to the original template defaults.

Hiding "Powered by Tapboard" ​

On the Platinum plan, you can hide the "Powered by Tapboard" branding from your menu displays. This option appears in the Footer section of the customization editor.

Tips ​

  • Preview before publishing. After customizing, preview your menu board to verify the changes look correct on screen.
  • Start with small changes. Adjusting one or two colors can make a big difference. You do not need to change every option.
  • Use your brand colors. Enter your exact hex color codes to keep your displays consistent with your branding.
